We’re kicking off our 10 year anniversary of the Chicago Review of Books with a new annual event: the Chicago Writers Showcase!
Join us on Wednesday, January 21 at 6:30 pm at the Book Cellar to get an exclusive first-look into some of the most exciting books coming out of the Chicago literary community!
RSVPs are optional but recommended!
The Chicago Writers Showcase is the next evolution in our mission to uplift the voices in our city’s creative community. We view this new event as a twin to the Chicago Review of Books Awards—where the awards look back on the last year in writing, this event will look forward at the books that are releasing in the coming months.
Book releases are an exciting—but often nerve-wracking—experience. It’s a deeply brave act to bring creative work into the world, but the reality of sales often turns elation into anxiety. More than anything else, preordering a book is the best way to support the authors you love.
For authors, the showcase is our way to give them a helpful preorder push as they prepare to welcome their book into the world. For readers, it’s a chance to get a sneak-peek at what’s coming in the year in books. Hear directly from the authors themselves as they read from their upcoming releases, then preorder their book so you can rest assured you get it first.
Here are the authors you’ll see live when you join us:
- Rowan Beaird reading from her novel Tenderness
- Sarah Bruni reading from her novel Mass Mothering
- Daniel Kraus reading from his nonfiction book Partially Devoured: How Night of the Living Dead Saved My Life and Changed the World
- Lisa Low reading from her poetry collection Replica
- Adrian Matejka reading from his poetry collection Be Easy
- Naeem Murr reading from his novel Every Exit Brings You Home
- Meredith Nnoka reading from her poetry collection Les Portes
We hope to see you on January 21 for this exciting new event—Share with your book-loving friends and RSVP today!
